“To P or not to P: Rethinking clinical trials’ interpretation through a probabilistic lens”

Clinical trials are traditionally analyzed using frequentist methods, with results interpreted based on statistical significance derived from p-values. However, p-values are often misunderstood by researchers, patients, and clinicians, which can obscure the clarity and impact of trial findings. This article explores alternative approaches, such as a posteriori likelihood ratio calculations and Bayesian analyses, which provide probabilistic statements. These methods offer a clearer and more intuitive way to communicate results and their associated uncertainties, thereby improving the understanding and accessibility of clinical trial outcomes.
